An amateur baker from Penarth has regretted leaving her daughter’s birthday cake to the professionals after receiving a pink castle with seven turrets that raised more questions than expected.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had ordered a fairytale castle.
Debbie Thomas, 28, explained: “My daughter loves fairytale castles and I asked the local bakery to make me a cake in the shape of Castell Coch. Something got lost in translation.”
Guests reportedly spent several minutes complimenting the icing while carefully avoiding any discussion of the architecture.
“The last time I saw that many cocks was at the city farm.”
“The last time I saw that many cocks was on a visit to the city farm,” Debbie continued. “And nobody there expected me to cut one off and offer it to my mother-in-law.”
A bakery spokesperson confirmed that the order had been taken over the telephone.
“We accept there may have been some confusion over the name,” they said. “Although we stand by the quality of the brickwork.”

The bakery has offered to remove the turrets and refund the delivery charge.
Debbie confirmed that next year she would be making the cake herself.
“A plain sponge,” she said. “Flat. No fucking landmarks.”
