Police have demanded that Pont Abraham Services turn off its illuminated fuel prices following a string of crashes involving motorists trying to establish whether the decimal point was in the right place.

Officers say drivers approaching the roundabout have been braking sharply, swerving and removing their glasses for a second look.

“One gentleman went round eleven times,” said a police spokesperson. “Initially, we suspected he was lost. It turned out he was trying to calculate whether he had enough equity in his bungalow to get to Haverfordwest.”

Another driver reportedly abandoned his car on the approach road and continued towards Carmarthen on foot.

“He wasn’t involved in an accident,” police confirmed. “He’d just seen the price of diesel and decided this was his life now.”

The intervention follows last week’s revelation that the services had begun accepting gold and precious jewels in exchange for fuel, with motorists advised to have family heirlooms independently valued before joining the queue.

The scheme has reportedly proved popular, although one customer from Cross Hands said negotiations over a full tank had broken down after staff refused to accept his wedding ring.

“They said it was only nine carat,” he explained. “I told them it had cost me thirty-seven years of happiness. Apparently, they don’t take that into account.”

Management has proposed replacing the roadside prices with a discreet message reading: “PLEASE COME INSIDE. WE’D RATHER TELL YOU SITTING DOWN.”

However, police say this would do little to address a second developing incident inside the shop, where Pont Abraham has unveiled what it proudly describes as Wales’s first £10 Mars bar.

The bar is understood to be the normal size.

“It’s actually slightly smaller than the old ones,” said one customer. “But the woman explained that you’re paying for the convenience. I asked what convenience. She said it was already here.”

The chocolate is being displayed on a velvet cushion beside the till, with serious buyers offered a private viewing and the opportunity to discuss part-exchanging a Twix.

A spokesperson defended the price, pointing out that customers were under no obligation to purchase refreshments.

“You’re welcome to bring a packed lunch. Several families now do, particularly if they’re expecting a lengthy appointment with our jewellery assessor.”

Police have urged motorists to keep their eyes on the road and avoid looking directly at either the forecourt sign or anyone emerging from the shop holding a receipt.

Meanwhile, the £10 Mars bar will be promoted under a slightly revised slogan:

“A Mars a day helps you work, rest and remortgage.”

Police have demanded that Pont Abraham Services turn off its illuminated fuel prices following a string of crashes involving motorists trying to establish whether the decimal point was in the right place.
