An incredibly rare painting, believed to be the only surviving image of Owain Glynd\u0175r, has been discovered in an attic in Llansilin, near his ancestral home at Sycharth.<\/p>\n

The local man who found it among copies of Rumours, Tubular Bells and a Hornby train set wished to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

\u201cI nearly took it to the tip,\u201d said Gareth Hughes, 64. \u201cBut the wife said the frame might be worth something.\u201d<\/p>\n

The portrait depicts the Welsh leader sporting a blond bob, pink waistcoat and lilac tights, prompting an urgent reassessment of his appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have to redo the tea towels.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cWe knew he challenged the English Crown,\u201d said medieval historian Dr Geraint Pugh. \u201cWe hadn\u2019t appreciated how comprehensively he also challenged the dress code.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Pugh described the fur-trimmed boots as \u201ca significant departure from the accepted scholarship\u201d.<\/p>\n

Experts intend to establish the painting\u2019s provenance by analysing the pigments, dating the frame and tracing its previous owners.<\/p>\n

A small inscription reading \u201cMattel\u201d is currently being investigated as a possible medieval patron.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe frame will undergo carbon dating,\u201d Dr Pugh confirmed. \u201cIf the results suggest 1983, we\u2019ll seek a second opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gareth has offered to include the train set.<\/p>\n
